First Act is the kickoff event to Denver's performing arts season, bringing together the organizations that call the Denver Performing Arts Complex home.
For one morning, audiences can experience ballet, symphony, jazz, theatre and opera while exploring the campus, meeting the artists and organizations behind the performances and discovering something new.
Whether you're a devoted subscriber or simply curious about the performing arts, First Act is your invitation to experience the Arts Complex as Denver's home for live performance.

Beyond the stage, First Act attendees and their families can strike a pose for a free professional headshot, craft their own paper flowers or step into the spotlight at Clowning on the Complex – a playful exploration of movement, imagination and creative expression for all ages, thanks to The Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre, Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex, Boettcher Concert Hall and the open-air Arts Complex Galleria will be open and ready to be explored.

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts will delight audiences with excerpts from its season-opening productions — Destiny of Desire: A Telenovela Play with Music and The Tempest. First Act attendees will get an exclusive preview of the melodrama and wild antics that make the telenovela the most popular form of storytelling in the world while classics' lovers will get a glimpse at Shakespeare’s final play.

Broadway Bound Community Dance Class: Move and groove with the DCPA Community Dance Class! This session features choreography inspired by The Outsiders, with high-energy movement and a touch of greaser style. Dress the part in your best poodle skirt or leather jacket to match the era. Designed for all ages and abilities, this inclusive class celebrates movement, community and musical theatre.

Yes, First Act is free for everyone! But please be sure to register so we know how many performing arts lovers to expect.
Is this event family-friendly?
Yes! All ages are welcome. Visit the kid-friendly activities on campus and test your toddler's interest in a performing art performance. This event is meant to open the doors to anyone who is curious about the performing arts.
Can I come and go during the morning?
Yes! While we'd love for you to stay for all performances, please come and go as your schedule allows.
