First Act is the kickoff to Denver's performing arts season, bringing together the organizations that call the Denver Performing Arts Complex home.

For one morning, audiences can experience ballet, symphony, jazz, theatre and opera while exploring the campus, meeting the artists and organizations behind the performances and discovering something new.

Whether you're a devoted subscriber or simply curious about the performing arts, First Act is your invitation to experience the Arts Complex as Denver's home for live performance.

Event Schedule

9:00 a.m. — Doors Open

Explore education booths, family activities, resident company displays and campus experiences. Arrive before 11:00 a.m. and park for only $10 in the Arts Complex garage!

9:30–11:30 a.m. — Live Performance Showcase

Five performances presented across two stages by resident companies of the Denver Performing Arts Complex.

9:30 a.m.: Dazzle on Stage 1

9:55 a.m.: Colorado Symphony on Stage 2

10:20 a.m.: Denver Center for the Performing Arts on Stage 1

10:45 a.m.: Opera Colorado on Stage 2

11:10 a.m.: Colorado Ballet on Stage 1

9:30-11:30 a.m. — Family-Friendly Activities

Beyond the stage, First Act attendees and their families can strike a pose for a free professional headshot, craft their own paper flowers or step into the spotlight at Clowning on the Complex – a playful exploration of movement, imagination and creative expression for all ages, thanks to The Denver Center for the Performing Arts. The Ellie Caulkins Opera House, Temple Hoyne Buell Theatre, Helen Bonfils Theatre Complex, Boettcher Concert Hall and the open-air Arts Complex Galleria will be open and ready to be explored.

11:30 a.m.–1:00 p.m. — Broadway Bound Community Dance Class

Continue the fun with a free community dance class hosted by the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
