Community Dye Party with HOLDTIGHT & Maki Teshima
Event Details
HOLDTIGHT & collaborating artist, Maki Teshima, are hosting a Community Natural Dye & Rope Weaving Party to help HT prepare for our upcoming performance season! Join us on Saturday, March 2 from 11am-4pm at the Champa Studio at the Arts Complex in downtown Denver, for a food-waste & flower scrap Dye Party (plus rope weaving). Come for an hour or stay all day, and let’s dye & weave together!
We will provide light snacks and drinks as fuel throughout the day as well.
Over the course of the day we will show you how to dye and weave materials, working with our hands in preparation for HT’s upcoming performance premiere of together : un/tethered. This new piece will premiere April 4-6 at The Studio Loft at Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Arts Complex with support from Denver Arts & Venues. Maki is a core creative collaborator on un/tethered and the performance incorporates Maki’s natural dye scenography.
Experience a taste of natural dyeing, rope weaving, and a fun afternoon with the HOLDTIGHT community!
All proceeds go directly towards supporting the premiere of together : un/tethered. Limited tickets available. This event is open to anyone 10 years and older.
**Flower Scraps donated from KaraKara Blooms (17 E 4th Ave, Denver, CO. 80203)
About together : un/tethered
together : un/tethered explores our ties to the world and each other. These tethers connect us, but can be altered, cut and reconnected. Weaving movement, live and original music, immersive theater, personal narrative, visual arts and participation, the audience is taken on an evocative journey to celebrate grief and joy.
Inspired by the work of prolific environmental scientists, eco-psychologists, indigenous communities, activists, writers, and others, un/tethered marries high quality performing arts with participation -- tasks incorporating environmental and psychological reflection, expression, and ritual. This partnership transforms the audience from removed spectator to empathetic participant.
un/tethered is composed of three distinct parts, each of which can be experienced individually and will premiere in Denver over the course of 2024, culminating in a durational, epic work in 2025. The first section, together : un/tethered, will make its World Premiere April 4-6 at the Studio Loft at Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Arts Complex in Denver, Colorado with the support of Denver Arts & Venues. un/tethered is HOLDTIGHT’s most sustainable production to date, incorporating natural elements such as food-scrap dyed set pieces and costumes, reclaimed set materials and more.
