Event Details
Musical Style: Jazz
Charu Suri is a GRAMMY® nominated pianist and composer who treads fearlessly between genres, blending several styles and fusing Indian ragas with more traditional jazz.
Her work has been performed all over the world, by artists including Yo Yo Ma, Edgar Meyer, Steve Gadd, John Patitucci, Ron Carter and The Preservation Hall in New Orleans. Charu was nominated for a GRAMMY® for her album, SHAYAN, composed using evening ragas to help people sleep better.
Suri has made history by becoming the first Indian jazz artist to perform at Carnegie Hall several times (her sixth time will be on Nov. 13, 2026), and also the first Indian artist to collaborate with Preservation Hall in New Orleans.
Born in South India, she was a piano prodigy performing in various concert halls at an early age. With mood-invoking ragas (to be played according to the time of day) for many of her compositions, she weaves techniques and sounds from several places including India, Europe, and Africa.
She has played several sold-out shows all over the world, from Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, to Birdland and Blues Alley.
