Motown and More
Denver Gay Men's Chorus
Event Details
The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus is thrilled to present Motown and More: From The Temptations to Lizzo on Friday, April 1st, 2022 at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House at the Denver Performing Arts Complex.
The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus returns to the Ellie Caukins Opera House to present Motown and More: From The Temptations to Lizzo; DGMC will celebrate a half-century of iconic African American pop music that has its roots in the distinctive sounds of the Motor City and now permeates every genre of popular music today. The concert event will feature the first-ever collaboration with world-renowned Cleo Parker Robinson Dance. The Cleo II ensemble will perform three world premiere works, choreographed by Ms. Parker Robinson specifically for this concert.
In addition, Motown and More will feature the Colorado premiere of “The Seven Last Words of the Unarmed,” by Joel Thompson. The last words of seven unarmed black men—including Michael Brown, Trayvon Martin, and Eric Garner, each killed by police or authority figures—inspired the lyrics for this powerful piece. Aurora’s Rangeview High School Choir will join DGMC for this powerful multi-movement choral piece.
