DCPA Theatre Company Announces Full Cast and Creative Team for Gypsy-Punk Sweeney Todd featuring new orchestrations by DeVotchK

The Denver Center for the Performing Arts (DCPA) is proud to announce full casting and creative team for the Theatre Company’s upcoming production of Sweeney Todd, featuring new orchestrations from Denver’s own Grammy-nominated gypsy-punk band, DeVotchKa.

“We are very much looking forward to sinking our teeth into this piece,” said Kent Thompson, Director and Producing Artistic Director of the Theatre Company.” “Thanks to Mr. Sondheim’s blessing, we have been working closely with DeVotchKa to create a new orchestral backdrop for this epic villain. The lifeblood, no pun intended, of the Denver Center is innovation. There is an inherent theatricality in DeVotchKa’s work that we believe will not only serve the piece, but will introduce the Demon Barber to a brand new generation of audiences.”

DeVotchKa, the Grammy-nominated, Denver hometown music heroes, take on the legendary demon barber of Fleet Street, serving up a delicious reinvention of Sondheim’s magnificent musical thriller. Hell-bent on revenge, Sweeney Todd takes up with his enterprising neighbor in a devilish plot to slice their way through London’s upper crust. Justice will be served—along with audacious humor, bloody good thrills, and DeVotchKa’s lush brand of gypsy punk.
