Wednesday, March 14, 2012

REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN for the second annual HealthONE Red Rocks Fitness Challenge!

The HealthONE Red Rocks Fitness Challenge will be May 1 – July 28, 2012, when 350 participants will set personal wellness goals, achieved with the help of a team of professional trainers, a medical doctor and nutritionist. In partnership with Denver Parks and Recreation, the Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre’s legendary stage and steps will turn into an outdoor gym, complete with circuit training stations, hiking, yoga and more, one morning each weekend for 90 days.

The HealthONE Red Rocks Fitness Challenge is a public fitness program geared towards improving the overall health and wellness of each participant. A HealthONE medical expert and 10 certified personal trainers will guide 350 committed participants through a 12-week program. The program includes pre-and post fitness assessments, a one-hour mandatory workout each Saturday or Sunday morning at Red Rocks, at-home exercise plans, ongoing nutrition and health advice.

Registration for the HealthONE Red Rocks Fitness Challenge begins Thursday, March 15 through the program’s Facebook page, http://on.fb.me/xGakhj. Registration is limited and expected to sell out quickly. The registration fee for the 90-day program is $150, just under $2 a day. Each of the 350 participants will receive a t-shirt, awards, and opportunities to win excellent prize packages. Prize packages including Southwest Airline vouchers, Red Rocks VIP concert packages, City of Denver Parks & Recreation memberships, golf lessons, personal training sessions and more.

The 2012 event will see several additions and improvements, all created to inspire each participant:

-    New dates, May 1-July 28, for ideal weather
-    Closure of Red Rocks Amphitheatre each Saturday or Sunday from 7-8 am, exclusively for Challenge participants
-    350 participants, up from100 in 2011
-    10 professional certified trainers, up from five in 2011
-    10 groups of 35 people, each led by a professional trainer
-    Partnership with City of Denver Parks & Recreation who will provide personal trainers, access and discounts to local recreation centers and prizes

With 3,000 acres of parks and parkways, 2,500 urban natural acres, and close to 8,000 acres of urban forest within the city alone, program partner Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR) adds extensive access to City recreation centers, gyms and the outdoors for participants to continue their workouts on their own during the week. DPR will conduct all fitness tests in order to track each participant’s progress and final results, based on their pre-assessment test levels and personal goals.

HealthONE physician Matt Lugliani, M.D. will serve as Medical Expert to the 350 Challenge participants. Dr. Lugliani will oversee the health of all participants during the 90 days of workout and dietary changes, as well as contribute blog posts about exercise and nutrition’s impact on illness, aging, and whole body health; and frequent tips for easy healthy lifestyle changes.

“As a parent who works full-time, I understand how hard it can be to manage your health,” said Lugliani. “What I am most excited about with the HealthONE Red Rocks Fitness Challenge is working with the participants on a personal level to determine the simple daily changes participants can make to see life-long health improvements.”

Challenge participants will also benefit from the expertise of Holistic Health Practitioner and LARABAR Representative, Jennifer Tingstad, who will provide weekly nutrition tips and host a seminar on overall health and habits.
